Matthew Stieger has claimed the Harvey Norman Magenta Shores Pro-Am beating out the overnight leader Nathan Green.

The first round of the Magenta Shores Pro-Am welcomed the players with cold southerly winds and rain. The regular tour players, ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia winners and also a PGA Tour winner were not spared as this day saw more of the field shoot in the 90’s than in the 70’s.

Former RBC Canadian Open winner Nathan Green lead after the first day with an opening round of 2-over 74 very closely followed by NSW players Callan O’Reilly and Taylor Cooper with a 3-over 75.

Sitting two shots back on a 4-over 76, the young talent Dimitrios Papadatos was going to be one to watch in the final round, feeling that his stint on the European Tour this year had helped him prepare for such weather.

"You play in this type of weather often in Europe. I’ve found the guys over there deal with all conditions amazingly well," said Papadatos.

The final round took quite a different direction with clear skies and hardly any breeze on the Shores. With perfect scoring conditions, the show was on and the challengers were lining up to overtake first round leader Green.

Former NSW PGA Champion Matthew Stieger would finally take the title shooting 4-under 68 in his last round for a 1-over 145 two round total, just one shot ahead of overnight runners-up Green and Novascatrian James Nitties, another former PGA TOUR player, with a total of 2-over 146. The latter fired an impressive 6-under 66 in the final round with five straight birdies on the back-9.

"This will give me great confidence as I head back to the Challenge Tour in Japan in a couple of weeks," said a very delighted Stieger.

The defending champion, Aaron Townsend made it to the top-5 with a 6-over 150, closely followed by Anthony Summers and Damien Jordan who both fired 7-over 151.

The Magenta Shores layout was a great test over the two days and the cream certainly rose to the top. The players will then head to Queensland next week to contest the Queensland Open at the Brisbane Golf Club.
