Curtis Luck’s march towards the PGA TOUR got off to a good start at the first of the Web.com Finals events, a top 20 finish at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital seeing him inside the top 15 of the four tournament money list that will decide cards for 2018.
The top 25 earners when the four events end next month will earn PGA TOUR privileges, Luck in excellent position early in the campaign at T14.
Brett Drewitt and Cameron Percy are also inside the 25 after both finished 1-under for the week in Ohio and T31 to be T22 on the money list, Scott Hend T41 in the field and T32 on the money list.
The other four Australians in the field – Matt Jones, Stuart Appleby, Rhein Gibson and Jamie Arnold – all missed the cut and are now under a little extra pressure for the remaining three events.
There are two money lists in play over the four event series, one for those who finished top 25 at the end of the regular season last week and another for the remainder of the field.
The regular season top 25 are already guaranteed a PGA TOUR card but the next four weeks will determine their ranking category depending where they finish on that list.
The rest of the field, made up of Web.com and PGA TOUR players, are playing for the remaining 25 cards.
In both cases the higher up the money list a player finishes the more starts they will gain on the PGA TOUR next year.
The top finisher on each money list receives a full exemption to the PGA TOUR, a big incentive as it allows the player to pick and choose his own schedule.
An added perk is an invitation to THE PLAYERS, one of the riches tournaments in the world and regarded by many as the fifth most important event in the game.
