Jason Scrivener has locked up his European Tour card for 2017 with some inspired play at the final full field event of the season in Portugal.
The West Australian came into the week at 114th on the Race to Dubai with only the top 110 keeping playing rights for next season.
But a 16-under-par performance, and T17 finish, was enough to move the 27-year-old to 106th and retain full membership.
Scrivener posted rounds of 68-66-67-67 to finish T17 in the event and pick up a cheque for €24,960 and an equivalent number of Race to Dubai points.
That moved him eight places up the standings and was just rewarded after he narrowly missed achieving the same goal last year.
Scrivener, who earned his card at the 2014 qualifying school, needed to finish outright third at last year’s Hong Kong Open to keep his card but three putted the 71st hole to fall into a share of third.
He returned to qualifying school and got his card back for 2016 and despite a run of poor form mid-season, his play in Portugal means he can now map out his 2017 schedule well in advance.
The news wasn’t as good for his two fellow Australians in this week’s field, veterans Richard Green and Brett Rumford.
Rumford played well in Portugal to finish 15-underand T22 but it wasn’t enough to lift him from 123rd on the Race to Dubai to inside the top 110.
The West Australian will finish the year 119th on the list and while he will likely retain some limited status in 2017 won’t have the luxury of full membership.
For three time Tour winner Green the news was even worse, the likeable left hander missing the cut in Portugal to fall from 121st to 122nd.
However, the good news for Green is that his position on the career money list sees him eligible to play again next season.
Green has amassed €9,962,881 in his 20 years playing in Europe, that figure putting him 39th on the career list with the top 40 entitled to a one off exemption.
