Round 2: Catching up with Jason Day.

""While I have sympathy for you all down in Melbourne freezing at the moment, I must say that it is a great feeling to get up to temperatures of early 20’s with little breeze and the potential only to get warmer as the day
goes on.

Today we can expect the thermometer to climb to around 20 degrees and the wind to be only a little zephyr and so it should be another awesome day at Firestone.

As with yesterday’s plan, the Firestone Cadillac headed out the parking lot at 7.50am. I am pleased to report that, while the outermost home parking sites had raised their daily rate to $10, the houses closest to the course were still only charging $20. No need to get greedy because the customers will
certainly come. However, I bet they will be upping the ante to at least $25 tomorrow.

My set up check was a breeze today as we had eliminated all of yesterday’s hole liner questions and the course is playing firm and fast just as a Championship should. Hole 2 should be interesting viewing today as the pin is only 10 paces on and 5 from the left – a small plateau that the architect
created but not one the players will particularly enjoy! However, if you are going to use such a position you must properly prepare the green to suit it and the staff have done a good job in taking a bit of pace off this green to make sure that things turn into a farce.

I am back down on my usual perch at 4, 5 and 6 and the day passed without any real issue arising. A few groups got behind and required the usual rev up but generally the pace of play was good again today.

After two rounds of golf we have yet to have a group break the 4 hour barrier which is a great effort even though they are playing the Championship in groups of two.

I think you know how much I enjoy catching up with our players and so you will appreciate how I simply could not drive past the range at close of play when our consist Major challenger, Jason Day was out hitting balls under the watchful gaze of Col Swatton. I love catching up with JD at overseas events
as he is so welcoming and glad to see you. You should have seen his face when I told both him and Col that there had been snow in Queensland lately! Jason is back to full health and looks in top shape. I have missed him in the parking lot so far this week and have avoided interrupting him on course but
I am glad that I got the chance to catch up on a few things with him today. At two under he certainly isn’t out of it and a low round tomorrow could put him right in contention come Sunday.

Tomorrow we head into a one tee start and so starting times come forward to 7.50am. I am just about getting into a sleeping routine now so maybe I will get past 5 hours sleep before tomorrow.

No changes to course preparation for tomorrow and look for the track to stay firm and fast.

Stay warm back home!!
