Cadillac Championship following the second round.
Fellow Aussie Marcus Fraser started the day in a tie for the
lead but the Blue Monster came up to bite him. He fired 5-over the card to see
his efforts in round one undone and he tumbled down the leaderboard to T26.
But Adam Scott continued to give Aussie fans something to
cheer about. He fired a 6-under 66 to be 10-under the card after two rounds.
"There is momentum and it’s a huge factor. The trick is
figuring out how to use it and maintain it, keep it going from week-to-week,"
said Scott who won The Honda Classic last week.
"So far this week, I’ve done a good job. Now the weekend is
a different animal and the leaderboard looks great. It’s going to be exciting
and the course is, at the moment, producing good scores."
"I’m probably a little more relaxed this week leading going
into the weekend than if I had not won last week. But a 36-hole lead doesn’t
mean that much unless it’s by about ten. I could tee off tomorrow and not be
leading."
Playing alongside Dustin Johnson, who fired a bogey free
8-under the card, was a motivating factor for Scott today.
"His round was just pure. It’s a pleasure watching him hit
the golf ball."
"He really got it going around the turn and that kind of
made me aware, I’ve got to keep my foot on the gas.
"I made a couple birdies and then had a good run toward the
end of the back nine to finish the day out."
"I saw all the top players on that leaderboard having good
rounds, I had to try and keep pace. I managed to stay just out in front."
Scott will take a two shot lead into the weekend but will
need to continue to play well with Rory McIlroy and Johnson lurking behind him
on the leaderboard.
"I’d like to find a little extra gear this weekend. I think
I’ll probably need it to win with the quality of leaderboard we’ve got, and
that will be the test for me," said Scott.
"Around a course like this, you have to be quite focused,
otherwise mistakes will happen. That will be my goal, like I said, on the
weekend to really stay focused and keep my foot down."
The next best of the Aussies are Marc Leishman and Jason Day
who are 2-over after two rounds and T41.
Playing on one of the biggest stages in the world for the
first time, Jordan Zunic is handling himself well on the Blue Monster. He has
had rounds 75 and 74 to be 5-over the card and T57.
Scott Hend is two shots further back in a tie for 60th
on 7-over the card.
After a tough introduction to Doral, Australian PGA Champion
Nathan Holman made a nice recovery today. After Scott, Holman was the only
other Australian to shoot under par in the second round. His 2-under 70 takes
him to 8-over for the tournament and 63rd.
The horror continued for Steven Bowditch who had 8-over the
card today to be at the opposite end of the leaderboard to Scott on 17-over
after two rounds.
