Scott Hend leads a group of four Australians on the cusp of making the top-60 of the Race to Dubai Finals Series with just three events left before the cut off is made.
Players must be inside the top- 60 at the
end of the Turkish Airlines Open in four weeks’ time to compete for the bonus
money on offer in November and Hend is currently 62nd with Andrew
Dodt 64th, Marcus Fraser 72nd and Richard Green 74th.
Hend, Fraser and Green are all in the field
at this week’s British Masters where the push to the finals begins in earnest.
The tournament returns to the schedule
after a seven year absence and will be played at the prestigious Woburn Golf
Club in England.
After a disappointing performance at the
Alfred Dunhill Links event in Scotland last week Hend will be motivated to play
well this week and earn his way into the Finals Series.
A fourth place finish two weeks ago at the
Porsche European Open suggested Hend was back in form after missing five cuts
in his previous eight starts and a third round 66 at the Old Course indicates
that could still be the case.
The Queenslander tends to play well in runs
and his performance in Scotland last week, while not his best, was in keeping
with previous results at the event and may have been as much to do with the
pro-am format as his own play.
In three weeks’ time Hend will defend the
Hong Kong Open title he won to secure his European Tour card this season and
that will no doubt be a motivating factor for him.
Richard Green will also play this week
coming off a steady though unspectacular performance at the Alfred Dunhill last
week.
The left hander has played consistently
since a run of four consecutive missed cuts in June and July and the
traditional layout at Woburn should suit his style of play.
Marcus Fraser and Wade Ormsby round out the
Australian challenge this week and Fraser, in particular, should find the
parkland layout at Woburn to his liking.
Straight hitting coupled with minimal
mistakes are the keys to Fraser’s game and after missing three of his last four
cuts he will be keen to get back in the fray this week.
For Ormsby, these late season events are an
opportunity to make up for a poor run through the middle of the year.
The South Australian missed eight straight
cuts between May and August, a disappointing stretch after his breakout season
in 2014, but things have improved in recent weeks.
