The PGA Professionals Championship, the most prestigious title for Vocational PGA Professionals, will have a home on Hamilton Island until 2020.

Hamilton Island Golf Club is gearing up this week to host 50 Vocational PGA Professionals and 56 amateurs who will tee off tomorrow at one of the country’s most iconic courses 31 October – 2 November.

Following today’s pro-am on the scenic Hamilton Island Golf Course, PGA of Australia CEO Gavin Kirkman confirmed the Championship will be hosted at Hamilton Island for the next three years.

"The PGA of Australia is delighted to have reached an agreement with Hamilton Island Enterprises to host our biggest Vocational tournament of the year until 2020," Kirkman said.

"It’s a magnificent facility and I know the Professionals love playing this event every year. We look forward to working with Hamilton Island Enterprises in growing the PGA Professionals Championship over the next three years."

The 2017 edition marks the sixth year the tournament has been held on Hamilton Island and after the devastation of Cyclone Debbie earlier this year, David Boyd, General Manager Retail, Activities, Marina & Concessionaires of Hamilton Island Enterprises is looking forward to showing the golfing public that the island is back operating at full capacity. 

“The PGA Professionals Championship and the Hamilton Island Amateur Golf Championship are something we at Hamilton Island look forward to each year," Boyd said.

"We are very excited to confirm that Hamilton Island Golf Club will be hosting these tournaments for the next three years, supporting what we believe is the foundation of golf in Australia.”

Many of the PGA Professionals at Hamilton Island this week are the face of golf club’s around the country managing, servicing and teaching the game to the masses.

After 250 PGA Professionals entered qualifying at different locations around the country, each will be looking to take the lion’s share of the AU$55,000 prizemoney over the three round tournament at the Hamilton Island Golf Club. 

The leading two male Professionals at the tournament will also qualify to tee it up alongside Sergio Garcia and Adam Scott in the Australian PGA Championship at RACV Royal Pines Resort 30 November – 3 December.

A position in the 2018 Women’s Vic Open, which is co-sanctioned by the ALPG and LET Tour, is also up for grabs for the leading  female Professional.

“The PGA Professionals Championship is a highlight on the PGA Professionals and amateur player’s calendars,” added Kirkman.

“The experience has become so memorable for the amateurs involved that demand for a place in the tournament has far exceeded what we are able to offer. This is a great testament the tournament as well as Hamilton Island Golf Club as a golfing destination.”
