Cameron Percy led the Australian
charge at the final PGA TOUR event of 2016, four sub-70 rounds at the RSM
Classic a positive note to heading to the Christmas break.

One of five Australians to tee up in
the event in Georgia, Percy returned scores of 69-66-68-68 for an 11-under
total and a T21 finish.

That was nine better than Inverell’s
Brett Drewitt who stumbled to a disappointing final round 74 to drop 16 places
down the leaderboard and be T67.

While he will be disappointed with
the finish, Drewitt can take heart from making two of three cuts in his PGA
TOUR debut and has some positives to build on when the season starts up again
in January.

Drewitt and Percy were the only two
Australians to qualify for the weekend at what was a low scoring event. Matt
Jones, Stuart Appleby and Steven Bowditch all finished outside the 5-under
number required to play all four days.

It was a particularly disappointing
result for Jones who gave up the chance to defend his Australian Open title to
tee up in Georgia but failed to make any headway in his attempt to regain his
PGA TOUR status.

Rounds of 70-69 were hardly
disastrous but with birdies proving easy to come by for the field it was two
shots too many.

Appleby will also have a sour taste
in his mouth after opening with a 67 to be on track to play the weekend but
fading to a 72 on Friday to spoil the early good work.

For Bowditch the end of the year will
likely be a welcome relief; the Queenslander continuing to struggle with rounds
of 77-87 to be last in the field.
