Papadatos top Aussie in South Africa

Dimi Papadatos continues to show improved form with a final round 69 jumping him 15 places up the leaderboard at the European Tour’s Joburg Open.

""Papadatos, who has struggled to regain the form that saw him win the New Zealand Open in 2014, backed up a T6 finish at the Australian PGA Championship last month with four solid rounds in South Africa to finish T31.

The 24-year-old made the most of his place in the field at the Sunshine Tour co-sanctioned tournament to cash a cheque for €7,569 and move to 42nd on the Race to Dubai standings.

Rounds of 71-67-73-69 are an encouraging start to 2016 for Papadatos who has only limited status on the European Tour and will need to make the most of every opportunity for the year.

Jason Scrivener was the only other Australasian to make the cut, the 26-year-old disappointed with his final round 75, his only over par score of the week.

The West Australian began the final round inside the top 20 but two bogies and a double in the first seven holes proved too much to overcome.

However, there is plenty to like about Scrivener’s form so far this season with four made cuts from four starts and some low rounds posted on difficult courses.

Daniel Gaunt, Terry Pilkadaris and New Zealand’s Ryan Fox all missed the cut at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club.
