New South Welshman Callan O’Reilly has taken a commanding lead after day three of the Final Stage Qualifying School presented by Cobra Puma Golf.

Starting round three two shots behind leader, Jack Wilson, O’Reilly opened his round on the back nine with a birdie, a bogey and an eagle in the first three holes.

O’Reilly picked up the pace on the front nine with three birdies to sign for 2-under 70 and go into the final round 12-under and two shots clear of Chris Gaunt and Jack Wilson.

"I played really well today. I probably let a couple of opportunities slip by late but the golf was as good as I’ve played for a while so I was really happy," said O’Reilly.

With stormy conditions expected to move across parts of southern Victoria tomorrow, O’Reilly is confident the unsettled conditions won’t pose a threat in the final round.

"You’ve just got to take what comes. Anyone who’s followed the pro-ams and the Tour schedule last year would know we’ve coped with rain delays."

As the final round looms and the chance to walk away with tournament exemptions on the PGA Tour of Australasia for the 2016 season, the reality of what the final day holds is weighing on the minds of many in the top-10.

"It would be a weight off the shoulders. Just to know that you can plan your year and not having to wait and see if you’re in tournaments," said O’Reilly.

"Hopefully I’ll keep playing like I am and let the rest take care of itself."

However, O’Reilly will have strong competition from the Victorian continent tomorrow in the form of Gaunt and Wilson who are currently tied for second after a 2-under 70 and 1-over 73 respectively, which placed the pair at 10-under.

"I drove the ball better than I have done the past two days, it was a slow start but I played nice golf coming home," said Gaunt.

"This week anything’s a bonus to improve my ranking."

It was a different story for Wilson who had a substandard round after leading the field on the first two days.

"It was a disappointing round today, I bogeyed the first and then got back to 2-under through eight and then made three really poor bogeys in a row and couldn’t make any birdies coming home, but there is still glimpses of good stuff there," said Wilson.

"I need to get on top of the way I’m thinking and keep it simple, keep the thought process as clear as I can and hopefully go through the motions and execute the shots that need to be done and hopefully that will be enough."

Round four of the Final Stage Qualifying School presented by Cobra Puma Golf will get underway at Sandhurst Golf Club tomorrow morning at 7:00am with a two tee start.
