Playing in the morning field Marcus Cain watched on as the
young guns smashed the ball past him but his steady style of play set him in
good stead.
Chipping his ball around the course Cain fired a bogey free
7-under 65 to be the early leader at the NSW PGA Championship.
It took until the third last group of the afternoon field
for anyone to catch him with rookie Pro Jarryd Felton also posting 7-under 65.
It’s a strong start for Felton who is hoping for a win this
week so that he can avoid a trip to final stage Qualifying School early next
year.
Sitting just one shot behind the leading duo is PGA Trainee
Graduate Deyen Lawson who has knowledge of the course on his side after the
NSW/ACT Trainee Championship was held here in August.
Joining him on the leaderboard at 6-under the card is PGA
TOUR player Rhein Gibson who was 5-under after his first five holes today.
Rounding out the top-5 on the leaderboard are Geoff
Drakeford, Brett Rankin and Andrew Campbell.
As the final event on the PGA Tour of Australasia in 2015

Key Quotes:
Marcus Cain, 7-under
65, 1st
"I played reasonably well. I hit it on the
fairway all day and hit probably six to six feet and made all of them."
"I just chipped it around and watched the boys
go at the greens on the par-4’s while I was laying it up, it’s that sort of a
golf course where you need to chip it around."
"The greens are reasonably undulating on the
last four holes so you need to keep it out of trouble."
Jarryd Felton,
7-under 65, T1
"I started off really well with a birdie and then a
good par on the second so I thought I could have it going."
"It’s really good for me this week, I am playing
for my life now and a trip to Q-School, so it’s good to get it off to a good start
and I am looking forward to a good end to the week."
"I am into the final stage of Q-School which is
good for me but definitely a win would change that and to get that category
would be great."
Rhein Gibson,
6-under 66, 3rd
"I birdied my first five holes. That stretch where
we teed off 7, which is a little weird being the first hole of the day, but
that’s the stretch you need to go at, so five straight birdies was nice."
"That’s a hot start and I was doing alright. I just
came out of a tee shot on 13 where I made a double. I had
some opportunities to get that back straight away and didn’t make them but made
two coming in late."
"I want to start contending a little more,
obviously I can go low and I have shown that the last couple of weeks, but I
want to be there in the mix on Sunday and see what I can do."
