No place like home for Jason Day - PGA of Australia

No place like home for Jason Day

Jason Day is headed to Australia for the World Cup of Golf
and for the World Number 1, there is no place like home.

Jason Day is headed to Australia for the World Cup of Golf
and for the World Number 1, there is no place like home.

"JasonWith the 28 countries competing in the World Cup of Golf
confirmed this morning, Day is excited to head to Melbourne to try and defend
his title with teammate Adam Scott.

Day won the individual title in 2013 and teamed up with
Scott to win the team title too when the World Cup of Golf was last played at
Royal Melbourne Golf Club.

"Scotty and I
represented Team Australia in the World Cup in 2013. It was actually a lot of
fun," said Day.

"The World Cup is
very important to me, especially when it’s back home in Australia. To have won
the individual and on top of it by winning the team event with Scotty was
awesome, especially in our backyard."

"The World Cup down
in Australia has a special spot in my heart for that reason. Obviously I’m
very, very hopeful that we can come back and defend."

Moving to Kingston Health Golf Club and with a new format,
Day will headline a strong field which will also feature World Number 6 Bubba
Watson and Masters Champion Danny Willett.

"I think with the
current format that we have now, it’s going to be a lot more exciting, and it
should bring a lot of great teams to Australia to represent their countries,"
added Day.

"I’m always excited
to go back and play the Sandbelt golf courses. They’re shot-making golf courses,
but you also need creativity and touch, with the imagination of hitting certain
shots to be able to attack certain pins."

"I think it’s a
great challenge not only for me but for all the guys that go down there to
compete. Kingston Heath this year is going to be so fun to play because it’s
one of my favourite golf courses to play other than Royal Melbourne."

Day is looking
forward to playing host with Adam Scott to the 56 players from 28 different
nations in Melbourne this November.

"We’re hosting the
event down in Melbourne; we get to showcase the best golf courses we have in
Australia as well as one of the greatest cities we have," added Day.

"I really enjoy
Melbourne, and a lot of the other guys that come from different countries get
to enjoy it, as well."

"I hear it from
everyone that comes to Australia all the time from different countries.  They enjoy Australia so much.  So we have a lot of things and experiences to
offer."

But even more special to Day is the chance to return home
for the first time in three years.

"I really miss
Australia. I get homesick a lot, and I’m really looking forward to getting back
down and playing the great Sandbelt golf courses but also hopefully playing as
the No. 1 in the world," added Day.

"Every year I don’t
get to go back, I miss it a lot, and I look forward to watching the golf
tournaments on The Golf Channel every year that I don’t go."

"I think the
biggest thing is I just miss the people.
I miss my mates.  I miss my
family.  I just miss how great everyone
is back home, how laid back everyone is.
I just miss home."

"Just talking about
it right now, I haven’t been there for three years, and I haven’t really
thought about it too much until just now and just talking about it, I miss it."

While it’s still undecided if Day will bring his family, he
hopes to one day show wife Ellie and children Dash and Lucy how far he has come
in his career.

"It’s up in the air
right now because it is such a long flight.
The little man (son, Dash), I’m not sure how he’ll do on the flight, but
Lucy, I’m sure she’ll be fine because she’s so young. Ellie is kind of 50/50 on
it right now," added Day.

"I would really
love them to come home because I think the last time that Ellie came down to
Australia she was sick, that’s how we found out that she was pregnant with
Dash."

"I want her to come
back and be able to enjoy Australia and the culture we have down there. See just
how wonderful it really is to be down there and experience stuff that I did
growing up as a kid."

"I want to take my
family back home to be able to really show them where I grew up. I think to be
able to show Ellie how far I’ve come, from where I was, to the Number 1 player
in the world would be pretty cool."

The World Cup of
Golf will be played at Kingston Heath Golf Club in Melbourne from 24-27
November.
