James Nitties and Bronson La’Cassie shared the honours for top Australian in a low scoring Web.com Tour event in Brazil.
The pair finished at 14-under at the Sao Paolo Golf Club
which was only good enough for a T24 result in a tournament won by American
Peter Malnati with a 22-under-par total.
Nitties’ finish was particularly impressive given he opened
with a 74 to be languishing near last place through 18 holes but moved up more
than 100 spots on the leaderboard with a second round 63.
With the cut coming at 4-under-par, eight of the 13
Australians in the field missed the weekend in a tournament interrupted several
times by lightning.
Nitties and La’Cassie were joined at the weekend by Adam
Crawford (28), Mathew Goggin (T42) and Steve Allan (T53).
Aron Price and rookies Oliver Goss and Brett Drewitt all
missed the cut by a shot while Alistair Presnell was also under par but out of
the weekend’s play.
Ash Hall, Rhein Gibson, Bryden Macpherson and Scott Gardiner
were all well back when the cut was made.
Mathew Goggin (4) and Steve Allan (9) remain the only
Australians inside the top-25 on the money list with four events of the 24
tournament schedule now played.
