A pair of PGA of Australasia Tour winners from 2015 were the standout performers at the Harvey Norman Flooring Magenta Pro-Am yesterday, which stood out as one of the most pure tests of golf seen all year on the Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series.
Chasing the morning field leaders which included Darren Beck, Davyd Reeves and Jason King who all carded rounds of two-under-par 70, Matt Millar and Aaron Townsend proved too strong on a tough day which was briefly interrupted by a thunderstorm halfway through the afternoon field’s round.
The pair both carded sensational rounds of five-under-par 67 to share the victory at Magenta Shores which is situated just an hour north of Sydney on the pristine NSW Central Coast and has a young but vibrant history which includes a connection to PGA Professional Dimi Papadatos who calls Magenta Shores home.
Millar was one of several players who had never seen the venue but was quite literally blown away by the scenic windswept Magenta landscape.
"The course is simply sensational and I really didn’t know much about where to hit it off the tee and besides a few short missed putts it was a great round for me" said Millar, who was one of several Professionals who backed up at Magenta after a treacherous week competing in last week’s Fiji International at Natandola Bay.
Townsend was also in Fiji and said that "it almost felt easy out there" after Fiji last week but the course here at Magenta is "just a world class tournament venue".
The pair were congratulated by tournament host, Magenta member and major sponsor Allan Dingwall from Harvey Norman Flooring who said "it was a delight to see two great players play so well on our great course and we are excited to build on this event for the future to showcase this course".
The Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series heads further north to Wauchope Golf Club for the BDM Wauchope Pro-Am beginning Thursday ahead of the South West Rocks Pro-Am on Saturday and finally on the NSW Mid North Coast will be the Boathouse Hotel Hawks Nest Pro-Am on Monday 26th.
