Mercedes-Benz Truck & Bus Victorian PGA Championship heads to Huntingdale

The PGA of Australia today announced that Huntingdale Golf Club is set to return as a venue on the PGA Tour of Australasia as it prepares to host the 2015 Mercedes-Benz Truck & Bus Victorian PGA Championship from 10 – 13 February 2015.

The PGA of Australia today announced that Huntingdale Golf Club is set to return as a venue on the PGA Tour of Australasia as it prepares to host the 2015 Mercedes-Benz Truck & Bus Victorian PGA Championship from 10 – 13 February 2015.

Huntingdale is no stranger to PGA Tour of Australasia events, previously hosting the Australian Masters for over 30 years, and with the new look clubhouse opening earlier this year the venue is sure to make an impact on the 2015 schedule.

"Huntingdale Golf Club is synonymous with Professional golf tournaments in Australia, and we’re excited to have them host the Tour again," said Brian Thorburn, PGA of Australia Chief Executive Officer.

The Championship has partnered with Mercedes-Benz Truck & Bus and SEN1116 to bring the tournament to the Sandbelt course, with both showing their terrific support of golf and the Victorian sporting landscape.

"Mercedes-Benz Truck & Bus has partnered with the Victorian PGA Championship to present one of our oldest tournaments, which over the years has boasted winners the likes of Peter Thomson, Kel Nagle, Peter Senior and Stuart Appleby," added Thorburn.

"To have the Championship continue its tradition on one of Australia’s greatest courses is a real coup for the event."

In another first, the tournament will take on a new and exciting format based on the successful AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am where the first three rounds are played in a pro-am format providing amateur golfers the ultimate golfing experience of playing inside the ropes at a PGA Tour of Australasia event.

Partnering the 92 Professionals, 92 amateurs will compete over two rounds in a best ball modified stroke format, with the top-40 pairs progressing to the third and final round of the SEN Challenge.

The top-50 Professionals and ties will make the 36 hole cut for the Championship proper. Playing individual stroke play, they will compete alone over the final day for the Mercedes-Benz Truck & Bus Victorian PGA Championship title and their share of the $100,000 prize purse.

"This format will provide a unique opportunity for the golfing community here in Victoria. It is not often an amateur golfer get’s access to the inside the ropes experience, let alone teaming up with a Tour Professional" said David Tapping, Executive Officer of the Southern Division of the PGA.

"It really is a golfing experience of a lifetime and we’re thrilled to be able to present this opportunity to the industry."
