David McKenzie will be a hunted man tomorrow in the final
round of the Mercedes-Benz Truck and Bus Victorian PGA Championship.
Heading into the final round at Huntingdale Golf Club, McKenzie
has a four shot lead with a field of competitors hungry for a win trying to
chase him down.
Overcoming a bogey on the 1st and holding on as
the wind got up at the end of the day, McKenzie fired 3-under 69 to be 15-under
the card after 54 holes.
A win tomorrow would be a huge boost for the veteran
Victorian who is aiming for a start in the Perth International.
Sitting outright second and also overcoming a challenging start
to his day is New Zealander Brad Shilton who ended the day with a 1-under 70.
A further shot back on 10-under the card is defending
champion Aaron Townsend with a group of seven players, including James Nitties,
Aron Pice and Matt Griffin rounding out the top-10 on 8-under the card.
In the Victorian PGA Amateur Challenge, Sam Newman wasn’t
able to hold onto his overnight lead to win the event.
With a score of 31-under the card, Robert Wright and his
Professional Daniel Fox claimed victory by six shots.
The final round of the Mercedes-Benz Truck and Bus Victorian
PGA Championship tees off tomorrow at 9.20am with the last group of McKeznie,

David McKenzie, 66,
66, 69, 15-under, 1st
"I bogeyed the first which wasn’t my ideal start but from
there through 10 holes I played, not quite flawless, but as good as I could
hope for."
"I three putted 11 and it just seemed to get tight around
the back-9."
"When I got to 12-under I thought why not shoot another
12-under. That was my picture, to shoot 12-under in the last two rounds. That
means I need to shoot really low tomorrow."
"If I was coming down the last hole with a four shot lead
then I would definitely think that’s enough. But you never know what’s going to
happen. It’s a golf course where you can quite easily make a couple of bogeys
and someone else a couple of birdies and all of sudden you can be tied again."
Brad Shilton, 64, 70,
71, 11-under, 2nd
"The wind really got up on the back-9 for us. It was pretty
late, you really only felt it the last couple of holes."
"I started pretty poorly today. I hit a few bad shots and
missed a couple of putts that I might have made the last couple of days."
"I am pretty happy to finish off 1-under, I think I was
3-under in the last 10 holes."
"I was just trying to be patient really. I made the same bad
swing three of four times in the first seven holes. I figured out what the
issue was and managed to fix that and hit it really well the last 10-12 holes."
"He (McKenzie) played really well today, especially early
on, if he does that again it will be pretty tough to catch him."
