Masters Tournament – Round 1 Afternoon Highlights

Welcome to Round 1 of The Masters!

It’s been a tough day at Augusta National with the wind really blowing, placing a premium on ball striking.

The big news of the morning was World Number 1 Dustin Johnson withdrew from the year’s first Major with the back injury he sustained on Wednesday afternoon.

But the morning has so far belonged to young European Tour player Matthew Fitzpatrick who leads at 3-under with three holes still to play.

He was joined by fellow European young gun Thomas Pieters who was 5-under standing on the 11th tee. However a disappointing run home which included two double bogeys, two bogeys and just a lone birdie has him in the clubhouse at even par and T11.

Adam Scott had a grinding day on course, six bogeys and three birdies saw him shoot a 75 to be T50.

Also on 3-over with holes to play is Jason Day and another tournament favourite Jordan Spieth after he made a 9 on the 15th.

Making his Masters debut; amateur Curtis Luck is holding his own at Augusta National and is 2-over after 10 holes playing alongside Matt Kuchar and defending champion Danny Willett who is 1-over.

Also 2-over after 14 holes is Rod Pampling who is making his first appearance at The Masters in 10 years.

However Marc Leishman is giving Aussie golf fans something to be excited about. The boy from Warrnambool is 1-under after 5 holes and not surprisingly playing very well in the windy conditions.
