Brody Martin from Marangaroo Golf Club in Western Australia held off a stern challenge from Manly Golf Club’s William Flitcroft to secure a three shot victory at the Coca Cola Rich River Trainee Classic in Moama.

In perfect scoring conditions, with only a slight breeze providing relief from the warm-weather, Martin and Flitcroft went head-to-head over the first nine holes of the final round after Martin took a one stroke lead into the final round.

After trading early birdies on the front nine, Martin and Flitcroft left the 14th tee tied for the lead on 7-under par, before Martin took advantage of a great wedge shot and birdie on the hole to take back the one shot advantage he started the day with.

Martin went on to birdie the 15th following another excellent wedge shot to take command of the tournament with three holes to play. 

Unfortunately for Flitcroft, a three-putt on the short par-3 16th reduced his chances of victory even further.

Martin and Flitcroft then proceeded to par both the 17th and 18th holes to give Martin a three shot victory and his second win in a four round Trainee championship, following his win in the 2014 Western Australian Trainee Championship.

Martin returns to Western Australia with a $6,480 winners cheque and a start in the 2016 PGA National Futures Championship in October at Ballarat Golf Club and the chance to be crowed National Futures Champion.

After 29 consecutive years at the Rich River Golf Club Resort, PGA Trainees will look forward to returning to Moama in 2017 to celebrate the tournaments 30th year.
