Martin, Hart share Warragul Pro-Am win

Andrew Martin and Tim Hart have won at the Gippsland BMW Warragul Country Club Pro-Am with rounds of 6-under 65 in wet, windy Warragul conditions.

Following a disastrous start to his round thanks to a double bogey on the uphill par-4 17th, Martin quickly turned his fortunes around with back-to-back birdies on holes 3 and 4 to get back to square.

The Asian Tour regular added an additional two birdies to his scorecard to close out the front-nine and put him with reach of clubhouse lead of 3-under set by Marcus Fraser. Additional birdies on holes 11, 12, 14 and 15 saw Martin sign for 6-under 65.

“It’s just nice to get back out and play some events. The boys here, they were great fun to play with,” said Martin.

“My day didn’t start the best but I just tried to stay positive.”

After opening his round with a birdie on the 6th hole, Hart, the 2019 PGA Pro-Am Series Order of Merit winner, quickly equaled the early clubhouse lead of 3-under with an eagle on the 8th.

A birdie on the 12th was followed by a bogey on the 17th, but it was three straight birdies from holes one to three that saw him equal Martin’s lead to tie for the win.

“I saw Marto had got to 6-under so I knew I just had to par the last to hold on for the tie,” said Hart.

“The plan was to get down here and play some events in preparation for the next four weeks on the PGA Tour of Australasia.

“It’s nice to get the win. I hadn’t been playing that great lately.”

In addition to the winner’s share of the prize purse, both Hart and Martin will have the opportunity to borrow a brand new BMW of their choice to drive to next week’s Gippsland Super 6, thanks to Gippsland BMW Dealer Principal Glenn Chenoweth.

The pair finished three shots ahead of Marcus Fraser and Gippsland local David Bransdon in third place at 3-under.

South Australian Kristalle Blum took out the Baw Baw Shire Council ladies’ bonus with a score of 3-over 74.

The final event of the PGA Pro-Am Series Gippsland Swing, the Purgar Paving Yarram Pro-Am will conclude on Sunday before the Gippsland Super 6 begins on Thursday 21 January at Yallourn Golf Club.
