New Zealand Professional and PGA Tour of Australasia regular Mark Brown has joined the magical 59 club today.

Playing in the Carrus Open on his home tour, the Charles Tour, Mark Brown fired the 11-under 59 on the par-70 Tauranga Golf Club layout.

"It’s cool, I’ve had a couple of good rounds in my time but to actually have that magical number is a great feeling," said Mark Brown who also holds the course record of 62 at Kingston Heath which he scored during International Final Qualifying in 2013.

"It was one of those days where everything went right."

Starting his round with a par on the 11th hole Brown was off to a slow start with a bogey on his second hole, the par-4 12th.

Recovering he went on to make two more birdies before heading to the front nine.

Brown ignited on the front nine reeling off five consecutive birdies.

He then went on to eagle the par-5 6th hole which he followed with a further two birdies to post a 9-under 26.

Heading to his final hole the par-4 10th Brown was at 10-under 60, he held his nerve to birdie the hole and join the 59 club which includes Australia’s own Stuart Appleby.

"I hit 4 iron off the tee on 10 because I knew I couldn’t get to the green, if I missed right with the driver I would have had no chip," added Brown.

"I thought the best option would be to lay up and get a sand wedge in there close, I didn’t hit a great pitch but managed to hole the putt."

Brown is a member of the PGA Tour of Australasia and in 2014 has played four events with a runner-up finish at the NZ Open, T6 at the Victorian PGA Championship and T14 at the Coca-Cola QLD PGA Championship.

Playing alongside three time Major winner Nick Price in the opening rounds of the Fiji International Brown went onto finish well down the leaderboard.

Brown will next compete in Australia at the John Hughes Nexus Risk Services WA Open Championship and at the PGA Tour of Australasia and European Tour co-sanctioned Perth International.
