A 72nd hole eagle rocketed Sydney’s Won Joon Lee into a share of second place at the Japan Tour’s ABC Championship at the weekend, his best finish in his rookie season earning him easily his biggest cheque.

""The big hitting Lee returned rounds of 70-69-66-69 to post a 10-under-par total for the week, two behind winner K.T Kim in a three way tie for second place.

A cheque for AU$125,000 was easily his biggest for the year and moved him to 33rd on the money list, likely good enough to see him retain his card for the 2016 season.

Lee had a hot start to the 2015 season in Japan with a T3 and T6 in his second and third starts of the year but six missed cuts in his next 13 events was less than he would have liked.

However, he righted the ship this week and with a swing of three of the Tour’s most prestigious events beginning in a fortnight his timing is impeccable.

Also finishing strongly and looking ahead to the next few weeks is Brendan Jones, the 13-time winner posting one of the best rounds of the day on Sunday to jump into the top-10.

Six birdies and a bogey saw Jones sign for a 5-under 66 and move from an overnight share of 18th to T8 for the week.

Kurt Barnes and David Smail were both 3-under for the week and T18 while the only other Australasian in the field, Matt Griffin, missed the cut.
