A birdie-eagle finish has catapulted Ryan Ruffels up the leaderboard late at the BMW Jamaica Classic, securing his third top-10 finish of the PGA TOUR-Latino America season.
Runner-up in each of his first two starts of the year, Ruffels began the final round at Cinnamon Hill Golf Club in Montego Bay in a tie for 14th and dropped back further in the pack after a bogey at the par-4 1st hole.
He got that straight back with a birdie at the par-3 2nd and made two further birdies to turn in 2-under 33 and set his sights on another strong result.
A birdie-bogey run at 11 and 12 kept any further progress in check until a late flourish saw him soar into a tie for sixth, five shots behind winner Evan Harmeling.
Having made eagle there in the opening round Ruffels made birdie at the par-5 17th before an eagle at the par-5 finishing hole, a hole he had played in a cumulative 1-over par in the previous three rounds, saw him sign for a 5-under 67.
The top-10 result was enough for Ruffels to move up one spot on the Order of Merit into fourth place, the top five at season’s end earning Web.com Tour cards for the following year.
