The PGA is sending best wishes and positive vibes to Jason Day after his collapse at the US Open today.
Walking down the 9th, his final hole of the
round, Day collapsed.
After a long delay in which time he received medical
attention, Day was able to stand up and close out his round.
Clearly severely affected and in discomfort Day made bogey
on the 9th to finish his second round at Chambers Bay at even par
and remain in the hunt at the US Open at T10 on the leaderboard.
The vertigo has been an ongoing issue for Day, who three
weeks ago withdrew from the Byron Nelson Championship after experiencing symptoms
in the pro-am and the 2014 WGC – Bridgestone Invitational.
In a statement, Day’s manager Bud Martin said that Day was being treated at
the course and more would be known after that.
"We will provide more information later today after getting through the
medical evaluation process,” said Martin.
"Jason wants to express his appreciation for all the good wishes from
so many fans and friends.”
One of those concerned friends on hand was Greg Norman who is commentating
the US Open for Fox Sports this week.
"His head was down, his eyes going back and forth and he said `I have
vertigo, I will be ok," Norman told AAP’s Ben Everill.
"Colin Swatton (caddy) said it is exactly what happened at Firestone
last year. He went down there and withdrew from the tournament.
"He is a tough kid and it is a little confusing for him as he doesn’t
know what the issues are."
"There is something there, let’s just hope he gets better very very
quickly."
In his pre-tournament press
conference Day touched on the worrying health issue but said he was feeling
good coming into the US Open.
"I had three sleep studies done. I had a lot of blood test done. I had an
MRI on my head and my back — my head
and my neck. And everything came back negative," said Day.
"So I have no idea what that was other than I just may have been exhausted."
"I feel good this week. I just literally walked into the room and come off a
half an hour nap, so I’m all good to go."
There has been no indication as to whether Jason Day will be on the tee in the
third round.
