Windsor Income Protection and the Queensland Golf Foundation are delighted to announce a renewed landmark hole-in-one partnership at the 2017 Isuzu Queensland Open.

The 11th hole of The Brisbane Golf Club has been marked as the $250,000 hole-in-one.  The reward is large, but the challenge is simple; the first player to have a hole-in-one in Round 3 or Round 4 of the championship will be awarded $125,000, with a further $125,000 awarded to the Queensland Golf Foundation.

The 199m par-3 will be a point of interest at this year’s Championship with the change from the par-4, 15th last year.

The hole-in-one sponsorship and partnership with the Isuzu Queensland Open is also part of Windsor Income Protection’s ongoing commitment to the development of golf in Queensland.

This event really does provide the opportunity for Australia’s next generation of golfers to gain the necessary experience and confidence to enter the global stage," said Windsor Income Chief Executive Officer Jason Potter-Rose.

"Our sponsorship of the $250,000 hole-in-one not only provides a chance to give a player the financial boost needed to achieve their dreams but we are also excited that half of the hole-in-one prize will go towards the Foundation to help encourage more young people to take up golf."

Brisbane Lions Player Claye Beams scored an ace on the 11th during a competition round last December and believes if he can do it, a professional should walk away with the prize.

“I was playing off the blue markers, and the hole was 188m into a slight breeze… I knew as soon as it left the club that it was a decent shot but you never think it’s going to go in,” Beams said.

Beams was joined by former Australian test cricketer Ryan Harris during the round, and offers optimistic advice for professionals vying for the prize.

“You are better being short then long on this hole. It much easier making par from below the hole regardless of where the pin is set.”

The par-3 has been a prime target of many aces in recent times with 24 hole-in-ones made over the past 10 years, with The Brisbane Golf Club member Julie Anning achieving two within a space of nine days in 2014.

Large crowds are expected to converge to the 11th green on the weekend with dedicated seating, food and beverages available.

The Queensland Golf Foundation, the fundraising arm of Golf Queensland, works to increase the number of people playing golf in Queensland through implementing new programs and initiatives for children, women and in clubs. With the support of the Isuzu Queensland Open, the Qld Golf Foundation will be able to provide even more opportunity for people in Queensland to play our great game.

"If a player is successful a sum of $125,000 means we will be able to increase the number of MyGolf camps we offer to children. Currently, because of resourcing, we are only able to service certain places in Queensland.  With this money, we will be able to give children in metropolitan, rural and regional areas the chance to attend camps and learn to play golf," said Golf Queensland CEO Lindsay Ellis.
