PGA Trainee Robbie Hogan has carded a 6 under par round of 66 to take the
outright lead heading to tomorrow’s final round of the Tony Hollands Funerals
QLD PGA Trainee Championship at Indooroopilly Golf Club.
Starting
the day four shots behind overnight leader Garrett Skinner, Hogan didn’t make
his first birdie on Indooroopilly’s River Course until the sixth hole where he
rattled off three in a row to make the turn at 1 under par for the tournament.
Hogan then made birdie on the short par 4 10th hole before finishing
with birdies on the 15th and 18th holes to record a bogey
free found of 66.
Having
already taken out the NSW/ACT PGA Trainee Championship earlier this year, Hogan
has become somewhat of a third round specialist.
"I
shot 7 under par in the 3rd round of our state championship and was
good enough to go on and win there so hopefully it is an omen for what might be
tomorrow" said Hogan.
"Our
flight was delayed getting into Brisbane on Saturday and given we are playing
four different layouts this week I didn’t actually get to see a couple of the
nines until we played them on Monday. It didn’t seem to matter too much though
and all of us NSW Trainees have been really impressed with the courses and the
format this week".
Playing
with Hogan in the third round was Pacific Harbour PGA Trainee Nicholas
Drinkwater who recorded a 3 under par round to be 1 under par for the
tournament and three behind Hogan. Joining the duo in tomorrow’s final group is
Caloundra’s Jacob Boyce who also shot 69 helped by a tap in eagle on the par 5
12th hole as well as a birdie on the 18th to finish.
The
lion’s share of $35,000 in prizemoney and the chance to join the likes of Greg
Norman and Rod Pampling on the Carnegie Clark Cup is all on the line in
tomorrow’s final round. Tee times begin at 7:30am with the lead group teeing
off at 8:42am on Indooroopilly’s prestigious West Course, and spectators are
welcome as we look to crown our 2016 Tony Hollands QLD PGA Trainee Champion at
approx 1pm.
