75 Senior Professionals contested the immaculately presented Mollymook Golf Club on the famed Hilltop layout for the NSW/ACT PGA Seniors Championship.
Initial overnight rain saw the course played to its full length with the greens receptive.
Morning players struggled to master the lengthy course with only one player in the first round, David Hando of NSW, breaking par and carding 1-under 71.
The afternoon group saw Legends Tour rookies Peter O’Malley and Anthony Painter playing in their first senior event on Australian soil shooting 70 and 72 respectively.
Queenslander Richard Backwell joined O’Malley on 70, but OOM leader Michael Harwood shot the round of the day 5-under 67.
Round two provided perfect conditions and in a new initiative by the club saw the leading eight players sent out in two groups of four Professionals, providing a real tournament atmosphere which attracted a number of local spectators.
As the wind increased, together with the speed of the greens, the leaders started to come back to the field.
A birdie par finish for Backwell and a par birdie finish for Harwood saw them tie on 2-under 142.
Both players made the walk to the par 3 9th tee and after Backwell hit a wayward tee shot while Harwood eased his 4 iron onto the green and 3 puts were enough to secure the title.
At the presentation Harwood praised the course and the people of Mollymook and announced his intention to return in 2016.
