The PGA of Australia and the City of Mount Gambier are pleased to confirm the South Australian PGA Seniors Championship is coming to Mt Gambier.

The tournament will be the first on the South Australian swing of the PGA E-Z-GO Legends Tour for 2016.

The championship will run over two days with professionals teeing it up at the Blue Lake Public Golf Links from March 31 to April 1. Players will be vying for the title and their share of the $25,000 prize purse on offer.

The move to Blue Lake starts an exciting new chapter for the championship following a successful stint at the Adelaide Shores Golf Course.

This will be the second year the Golf Club at Blue Lake has hosted the PGA E-Z-GO Legends Tour, previously hosting the highly successful Nelson Hotel Blue Lake Legends Pro-Am earlier this year.

Tournament Organiser and Club Manager Bill Burley jumped at the opportunity to grab the South Australian PGA Seniors Championship when the prestigious title became available.

"It gives me great pleasure to once again bring a state golf championship to my home town, this time in the form of the South Australian PGA Seniors Championship, at our picturesque Blue Lake Public Golf Links," said Burley.

"After the success of the Legends Pro-Am in April this year, I wanted to bring a bigger event back to our course and when the opportunity came up to host the State title I was only too happy to chase the event."

The Legends Tour players always enjoy playing in regional areas and having a two day event not only gives them the opportunity to sample the hospitality of Mt Gambier but also helps to increase the local economy, with some 60 Professionals and a number of visiting amateurs utilising local accommodation and businesses.

"It is an exciting time for golf in both Mt Gambier and South Australia. Last year’s event attracted Australian golfing legends such as Rodger Davis, Peter Fowler and Mike Harwood as well as attracting British Open Runner up Simon Owen from New Zealand. We are confident that the field will be just as strong in 2016," said David Tapping, Southern Division State Manager at the PGA.

The City of Mount Gambier has been a great supporter of this new event with local Mayor Andrew Lee very keen to secure the future of the event. The council’s contribution has provided the tournament a great platform to grow in the coming years.

With a strong field expected to be on hand to contest over the two days, several well-known Australian Professionals have teed it up in the PGA E-Z-GO Legends Tour this year, including former Alfred Dunhill Cup winner and USPGA Champions Tour winner, Rodger Davis, European Tour, New Zealand Open and Queensland PGA winner, Peter Fowler, European Tour winner, Mike Harwood, and PGA Tour of Australasia winner, Michael Clayton.
