Newly-inducted Ladbrokes Legends Tour member Richard Gilkey has claimed his first win on tour at the Peter Stickley Vendor Advocacy Legends Pro-Am.
Battling against a field including Peter Senior, Peter Lonard and Peter Fowler, Gilkey stood strong to win by 3 shots at Eagle Ridge Golf Course.
Firing a standout 6-under 66 in the morning round, the American raved about the Mornington Peninsula layout where players were greeted with perfect scoring conditions for the start of play.
“What a great golf course, they’re all good out here,” said Gilkey.
“The tee shots are intimidating so I had to focus on hitting fairways and it really worked for me.”
An increasing breeze made for tougher conditions in the afternoon, where Fowler topped the afternoon field with a score of 3-under 69 to finish tied for second place with Trevor McDonald.
Bryce Mawhinney, Glenn Joyner, Michael Harwood and Darryl Purchase completed the tournament in a four-way tie for fourth place at 2-under the card.
The Ladbrokes Legends Tour continues its Mornington Peninsula leg with fine conditions forecast over the next week.
