PGA Tour of Australasia player Josh Geary will be teeing up on the Web.com Tour next year after posting his third PGA TOUR China victory of the season.
Geary, the 2013 WA Open champion, fired a
final round 1-under-par 71 to win the Yulongwann Yunnan Open by a shot and take
an all but unassailable lead at the top of the Order of Merit.
The top five earners in the 12 event series
at season’s end will be awarded Web.com status and the New Zealander, who has
almost AU$160,000 in winnings already, holds a lead of more than AU$60,000 over
second placed Eugene Wong of Canada.
The final round was effectively matchplay
between Geary and runner-up Gunn Charoenkul of Thailand, the pair starting the
day eight and seven shots ahead of the field respectively.
Charoenkul won this title last year and had
a putt to force a play-off at the final hole but it slid by, leaving Geary
celebrating his third win of the season.
"It’s
just one of those things where someone has to win," said Geary.
"It
happened to be me this time. Next time it could be him. He’s a really good
player. It wouldn’t surprise me if he wins very soon."
After posting his maiden Professional win
last week Bryden Macpherson backed up with another excellent week finishing in
a share of third at the Lushan International Golf Club and moving to fourth on
the Order of Merit.
After a difficult season on the Web.com
Tour in 2015 Macpherson may be heading back there in 2016 thanks to his
performance in China where he also enjoyed a good season last year.
David McKenzie was the only other
Australian in the top-10 at T6, the veteran now inside the top-20 on the Order
of Merit having played just four of the seven events this season.
