Scott Gardiner
and Brett Drewitt made up ground on the final day of the Web.com Tour’s Utah Championship but it was an
overall disappointing week for the Australians.
The pair were
the only survivors of a 2-under cut line on Friday but both slipped during
Saturday’s third round with over par scores.
Gardiner made
a promising start to the week with five birdies against a lone bogey to be
inside the top-15 after Thursday’s opening round but couldn’t maintain the
momentum and posted a 1-over 72 Friday.
Drewitt was
one shot further back after opening with 71-69 to be on the cut line but it was
Saturday which proved costly for both players.
A pair of
3-over 74’s saw both Gardiner and Drewitt slide down the standings and while
both recovered with 2-under rounds of 69 on Sunday they finished T32 and T45
respectively.
It was a low
scoring week in Utah and five of the seven Australians in the field struggled
to keep pace.
Steve Allan,
Peter Lonard, Mathew Goggin, Bryden Macpherson and Oliver Goss all missed the
weekend’s action.
