Marcus Fraser continues to impress in 2016 with a T2 result at the Asian Tour/Japan Golf Tour co-sanctioned Panasonic Open in Japan.
The 37-year-old leads the Asian Tour money list, after capturing the co-sanctioned Maybank Malaysian Championship title in February, and a win this week would have also given him access to the Japan Golf Tour.
However, despite a brilliant four days of golf Fraser, along with the rest
of the field, were outplayed on the final day by multiple Japan Tour winner, Yuta Ikeda, whose 7-under 65 saw him win by three strokes.
Fraser shot a final round of 68 but admitted afterwards the Japanese veteran was difficult to catch after a stunning front nine.
Ikeda made six birdies on his way to the turn and took just 10 putts on the greens in recording a tournament winning 29.
A gracious Fraser had nothing but praise for his final round playing partner after the round.
"I needed to get off to a fast start and that didn’t
happen," he said.
"Yuta played nicely on the front and set himself up to win. I couldn’t keep up with him. He played flawless golf on the front and deserves to win."
Fraser was one of six Australians to make the cut in the event, Japan Tour regulars Adam Bland and Brad Kennedy next
best at T26 alongside Asian Tour regular Sam Brazel.
Terry Pilkadaris (T55) and Wonjoon Lee (T62) were the others to play all four days with seven Australasians missing the cut.
Brendan Jones, Michael Hendry, Kalem Richardson, Scott Strange, Scott Barr, Kurt Barnes and Unho Park failed to qualify for the weekend.
