Fox hunting big game in Italy

Ryan Fox has finished outside the top-6 just once in the four lucrative Rolex Series events so far in 2017 and will be keen to keep that run going at the fifth this week at the Italian Open in Milan.

""A missed cut at the BMW PGA Championship in May is the only blemish on the New Zealander’s record in the US$7,000,000 tournaments with an outright 6th at the French Open and T4 finishes in both the Scottish and Irish Opens.

Back to back missed cuts in his last two events will be plenty of motivation for the 30-year-old who is one of eight Australasians teeing up at the Golf Club Milano this week.

It’s been an impressive first full year on the Tour for Fox who will be pleased with his current position of 26th on the Race to Dubai rankings though would dearly love to cap off his season with a win.

Fox makes his debut at the event this week but several of the other Australasians in the field have previous experience to call on.

This is the third year the tournament is being played at this venue with Jason Scrivener making the cut in both previous visits.

A T14 in 2015 and T33 last year suggest the course fits the West Australian’s eye and at 97th in the Race to Dubai rankings a high finish this week would be welcome.

Wade Ormsby is also in need of a good finish as he sits 100th on the standings with only the top-111 to keep their playing rights for 2018.

Ormsby makes his second appearance at Golf Club Milano after a T33 result last year but will be looking for something better this week as he plays his second last event for the season.

Brett Rumford has no concerns for his immediate playing future having won the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth but would definitely like to break a streak of three consecutive missed cuts.

Marcus Fraser is the only Australian aside from Jason Scrivener to have played twice at this course though has mixed results with a missed cut and a T61 finish.

Andrew Dodt, Sam Brazel and Nathan Holman round out the Australasian challenge, all looking for a turnaround in form after recent struggles.
