Fox back in form

A welcome return to form has seen New Zealand’s Ryan Fox claim top Australasian honours at the European Tour’s Nordea Masters in Sweden.

""Fox came to the Barseback Golf and Country Club in Malmo on a run of three straight missed cuts but consistent play saw him finish T21.

The 30-year-old played his way to the European Tour with a brilliant season on the secondary Challenge circuit in 2016 and made an impressive debut when ninth at the Australian PGA Championship.

But his recent form has been erratic and he last played the weekend at the Shenzen International in April, this week’s performance no doubt a confidence boost ahead of the northern summer.

Richard Green was next best of the nine Australasians who teed up in Sweden, the veteran finishing two shots behind Fox at 2-under for the week and T30.

Heading to the weekend inside the top-10 it was a disappointing final two rounds for Green but the result did move him more than 20 places up the Race to Dubai standings.

Green now sits 196th on the list but needs to get into the top-111 if he is to regain full playing rights in 2018.

Scott Hend finished three strokes further back and T47, the Queenslander rueing his play on Barseback’s second hole where he made three double bogeys and a bogey for the week.

Hend’s aggressive style was once again on display with 15 birdies and an eagle for the week but he also made 10 bogeys and four doubles.

After taking the 54-hole lead at last week’s BMW PGA Championship Andrew Dodt was on a roller coaster in Sweden with scores of 77-68-73-79.

His third round of even par was made up of a bizarre mix of two eagles and four bogeys while two double bogeys in the final three holes of the tournament were a less than ideal finish.

Sam Brazel was the only other Australian to make the cut, closing with a 2-over 75 to be T57.

Wade Ormsby, Jason Scrivener, Brett Rumford and Marcus Fraser all missed the cut which fell at 1-over.
