Australia’s most successful over 50’s players of the last half decade get their chance to capture a major title when the US Senior PGA Championship is played in Indiana this week.
Peter Senior and Peter Fowler will each tee
up for the sixth consecutive time in one of the most prestigious Senior events
on the calendar.
Senior has a remarkable record since turning
50 and that is reflected in his results at this tournament since he first
played in 2010.
Though struggling for much of 2014 and yet
to find his feet after losing full status in 2015 Senior has never finished
worse than T15 at this major.
Back-to-back top-five finishes in both 2011
and 2012 were the highlight but 2014 marked his worst result and that was a
more than creditable T15.
The results haven’t been quite as good for
Fowler who has been one of the premiere players on the European Senior Tour
since 2010 but he has acquitted himself well in his rare appearances in the US.
Twice the former Australian Open winner has
missed the cut at this tournament and while his best finish is T64 just to make
the weekend in one of the strongest fields of the year is an achievement.
