New South Welshman Nick Flanagan has qualified for the 117th U.S. Open to be played next week at Erin Hills.
Teeing it up at Lakewood Country Club in Sectional Qualifying, the 32-year-old fired rounds of 68 and 63 to finish second on 11-under the card.
Flanagan secured one of the three places on offer at Lakewood thanks to 14 birdies and just three bogeys across the 36 hole marathon.
In 2003 Flanagan made a name for himself by winning the U.S. Amateur and going onto play The Masters, U.S. Open and The Open in 2004 after which he turned Professional.
Recording three wins on the Web.com Tour (then Nationwide Tour) in 2007, Flanagan earned a battlefield promotion to the PGA TOUR.
He added a further win to his resume in 2012 at the BMW Charity Pro-Am on the Web.com Tour.
In recent times Flanagan has battled with injury and hasn’t played on the Web.com Tour full time since 2015, however qualifying for the U.S. Open presents a huge opportunity.
2017 will be Flanagan’s second time playing the U.S. Open however he also made an appearance inside the ropes last year when he caddied for fellow Australian Aron Price after he earned his place via Sectional Qualifying.
Flanagan joins World Number 3 Jason Day, Adam Scott, Marc Leishman and Wade Ormsby as Aussies in the field at Erin Hills.
