Gavin Fairfax, Trainee at the Southern Golf Club in Victoria, has recorded a two stroke victory in the Vic/Tas PGA Trainee Championships played at the Tocumwal Golf and Bowls Club.
In the final round he shot a 1-over par 73 around the Captains course on another beautiful day of weather.
“I began with a plan that was quite conservative but as Robbie got closer I realised that it wasn’t working and needed to play like I had at the start of the week," Fairfax said
Fairfax was chased all the way by Robert Hogan, Trainee at the Toukley Golf Club, who fired a 4-under par 68. Beginning the day seven shots behind, Hogan closed within two shots with four holes to play but that was as close as he got.
Marco Zirov finished in outright 3rd on 9-under with a final round 68. Also finishing strongly with great final rounds were Sam Price (Qld) and Frazer Droop who shared 4th on 8-under par.
With his win Fairfax not only claimed the Vic/Tas PGA Trainee title and over $6300 in prizemoney, but also the Victorian Trainee Championship which was played concurrently during the tournament. Aiden Withers, Trainee at the Seabrook Golf Club, claimed the Tasmanian Trainee Championship for the second time.
