Victorian Tim Elliott is one step close to booking his place at the Kitchenaid US Senior PGA Championship after claiming the $35,000 Bega Cheese Legends Pro-Am at Tura Beach.
Elliott shot 4-under 69 to claim a two stroke victory over Steve Conran and David Hando.
In a coup for the Legends Tour, an exemption into the $2.8million US PGA Senior Championship will be granted to the Order of Merit Leader as at 9 April 2017.
With only six events remaining prior to the deadline competition is fierce to secure a tee time in the Champions Tour event to be played at Trump National, Virginia.
Thanks to his Bega Cheese victory, Elliott now holds a slender lead over Steve Conran, with Peter Senior, Brad Burns and Michael Harwood all still in contention.
“The pressure is on now, but I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing. I love playing down here” said a jubilant Elliott in his acceptance speech.
Bega Cheese Tournament Director Grahame Hocking praised the effort of his team and the organising committee of Tura Beach Country Club in delivering his 25th Bega Cheese Legends Pro-Am.
The Bega Cheese tournament has a rich history with the event being conducted over the years as a Legends Tour Event, an Open Pro-Am and the NSW PGA Championship in the early 2000’s.
