Frazer Droop has held on to win the title of 2017 Coca-Cola Rich River Trainee Classic Champion. In another solid performance today Droop teed off in pole position this morning, 12 shots under the card and four shots clear of his nearest competitor Gavin Farifax.

Clear skies and a light breeze made for idyllic conditions for competitors and spectators alike. Fairfax took charge of the competition early showing he had his eye squarely set on the prize.

Applying the pressure with three quick birdies and one bogie on the front-9 and another on the 10^th, Fairfax clawed Droop’s lead back to one shot.

Droop held his calm under the pressure of his first national tournament as a Trainee Professional, firing back to back birdies on the 17^th and 18^th respectively to secure a three shot win.

Robbie Hogan showed promise early sinking an amazing birdie putt on the 2^nd but was unable to find the form he needed to stay in contention for the title, finishing his round 1-over 73 and tied for third position with fellow New South Welshman Joel Troy.

Droop takes home the winner’s cheque this week of almost $7300 in addition to qualifying for the National Futures Championship to be hosted later this year at Ballarat Golf Club.

The support of the Rich River Golf Resort, family members and staff alike has been the foundation of this tournament for over 30 years and this year was no exception.

The PGA of Australia and Rich River Golf Resort have recently signed a new agreement securing the future of the event for the next two years.
