Dodt tames gales to maintain Mauritius lead

Queenslander
Andrew Dodt continues to lead the European Tour’s AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open
in challenging conditions.

Firing a
steady 2-under 70 in the second round, Dodt now holds a three shot lead from
last week’s European Tour champion Jeunghun Wang and Bangladeshi Siddikur
Rahman

Being
played on the stunning Four Seasons Golf Club Anahita, Dodt’s game plan to tame
the gale force winds is paying dividends and he is 8-under the card at the
halfway mark.

"I’m trying
to embrace the challenge and enjoy the conditions and have fun, rather than trying
to hold on and be defensive," said Dodt.

"You’ve got
to be as tough as you can and miss in the right spots. I didn’t strike the ball
as well as I did yesterday, but I missed in the right areas, where I could
still get up and down. That was the key."

While the conditions
might be playing havoc on the field, just 10 player posted rounds of par or
better on Friday, Dodt is using the wind to his advantage.

"I’ve
actually been struggling a bit to get on my left side through the ball, but
this wind is helping me get on the left side, as you have to do that to hit it
low," added Dodt.

"I’ve
always been a pretty good wind player, so I feel really comfortable in these
conditions."

Dodt’s
second round was highlighted by a chip in birdie on the par-3 12th,
it was one of five birdies he made for the day that were offset by a bogey and
a double.

"The
chip-in on 12th was a lovely shot. It came out a little harder than
I would’ve liked but luckily it hit the hole dead centre," said Dodt, who
followed it up with a seven on the par-5 13th.

"I lost my
concentration on the next hole, though, which sometimes happens when you make a
birdie."
