Andrew Dodt tees up on European soil for the first time in more than a month this week when the Porsche European Open comes to Germany.
Dodt, one of the feel good stories of the
season after securing his card at Q-School then winning in February, hasn’t
played since the WGC Bridgestone in August and not in Europe since the Paul
Lawrie Matchplay.
The 29-year-old has played a limited
schedule in 2015 with this week’s appearance just his 15th of the
season.
He currently stands 60th on the
Race to Dubai list and seems likely to play the lucrative finals events which
get underway at the end of next month.
Dodt is one of seven Australians in the
field at Golf Resort Bad Griesbach, joined by Scott Hend, Wade Ormsby, Marcus
Fraser, Richard Green, Daniel Gaunt and Jason Scrivener.
Scrivener will be looking to continue his
good from of recent weeks which has put him in with a chance to retain his card
for 2016.
Like Dodt, Scrivener secured his 2015 card
at Q-School but has found the going tougher than his more experienced
countryman.
A T11 at his first event in South Africa in
January promised much but limited playing opportunities combined with eight
missed cuts in 18 starts put the West Australian in a precarious position.
However, a mini rally over the past five
weeks has seen him climb to 134th on the Race to Dubai standings and
if he can advance to the top-110 he will be back in Europe next year.
Fatigue may be Scrivener’s biggest hurdle
in Germany as he plays his sixth straight tournament, four of his last five
resulting in top-20 finishes.
Also on the cusp of keeping status for next
year is Daniel Gaunt who sits just inside the top-110 at 108th.
In 13 starts this year Gaunt has posted two
top-10’s, a runner-up result at the Made in Denmark tournament a month ago the
highlight and accounting for more than half his 2015 earnings.
He has missed two cuts in four starts since
and will be looking to turn that form around this week to ensure he retains his
status for 2016.
