Day shows grit to lead US Open

The third round of the US Open at Chambers Bay belongs to Aussie Jason Day.

The third round of the US Open at Chambers Bay belongs to Aussie Jason Day.

"JasonAfter the dramas on Friday which saw the Queenslander
collapse on his last hole of the day due to vertigo, Day showed incredible determination
to take the tee today.

Still within a look of the lead Day didn’t just show up to
make up the numbers, it’s the US Open and he was here to play.

Day got off to a shaky start and was 2-over through the
turn, but on the back-9 his game really ignited.

He found five birdies, three in his closing four holes, to
launch himself up the leaderboard and into a share of the lead with just one
round to play.

At 4-under the card Day enters Sunday’s final round tied
with Dustin Johnson, Branden Grace and Jordan Spieth.

Day wasn’t the only Aussie that had Chambers Bay buzzing,
young gun Cameron Smith continues to impress on the world’s biggest stage.

He fired his first under-par round of the tournament and is
now tied 5th heading into the final round of his first Major
championship.

For the rest of the Australian contingent the third round
was more of a challenge.

Adam Scott made just one birdie for the day on his way to
shooting 2-over the card. He is now 3-over and T19.

John Senden fought hard for his even par round on a day when
most of the field were finding more bogeys than birdies. He is now 4-over and
T25 on the leaderboard.

Geoff Ogilvy’s highlight came early with a birdie on the
first but he ended the day 5-over the card and is now 6-over after three rounds
and tied 39th while Marcus Fraser is a further three shots back and
T61.
