Davis continues his PGA TOUR mission

Already a tournament winner and inside the top-20 on the money list Cameron Davis’ pursuit of a full PGA TOUR card continues in earnest at this week’s Wichita Open on the Web.com Tour.

""Davis is one of nine Australasians who have made the journey to Kansas, the reigning Emirates Australian Open champion on a mission to play his way to the top of the earnings table.

The top-25 at the end of the regular season are guaranteed status on the main TOUR in 2019 but the leading money winner has the luxury of a full card and it will be Davis’ goal to be that player.

At some $170,000 behind current leader Sungjae Im, the Sydney native has work to do but Davis is proving a quick study at the top level of the game and more victories before the year is out are not beyond him.

He is joined this week by Stuart Appleby, Brett Drewitt, Rhein Gibson, Cameron Percy, Jamie Arnold, Curtis Luck and the New Zealand pair of Steve Alker and Tim Wilkinson.

All have work to do in terms of climbing the money list, Luck, Arnold and Percy outside the top-60 while Alker, Wilkinson and Appleby are outside the top-100.

Wilkinson will bring some confidence to the tee after making the weekend at the U.S. Open but a gruelling week in New York and a vastly different course set up may make the going tough.

Brett Drewitt has been hovering near the top-25 money winners most of the year but slipped outside the top 30 in recent weeks so will be looking for a strong showing this week.

His previous best in three appearances here was a T27 last year though he will be looking to improve on that.

Rhein Gibson was T3 here in 2015 though it is his best finish by a long way in four starts. Having continued to slip down the money list after a hot start to the year he will be keen to draw on that form of three years ago this week to shore up his position as the season enters its second half.

Curtis Luck and Jamie Arnold have both been at less than their best to date in 2018 and both will be feeling the pressure mounting.

Luck is 66th in earnings and Arnold 67th and while they are by no means out of the running for a PGA TOUR card yet the clock is ticking.
