Steve Conran has won the Higgins Coatings Legends Pro-Am at Portsea Golf Course on a day where the beach-side course showed its teeth.
With a southerly wind gusting up to 40kmph the links layout played significantly harder than its 5,770 meters.
A field of 58 senior professionals that included Peter Senior, Peter Lonard, Mike Harwood and Peter Fowler to name a few struggled to control the ball on the fast-running course in blustery conditions.
The three Peters all struggled in the conditions with Lonard’s 3-over 74 the best of the trio, however it was New South Welshman Steve Conran who handled the conditions best with an exceptional round of 69.
Glenn Joyner, John Wade and Canadian Ken Tarling ran equal second, one shot back at 1-under 70.
A run of four birdies from 10 to 13 was the highlight of Conran’s round with the only real blemish being a double bogey 6 on the short par-4 15th.
Steve Conran thanked the club and sponsors for their support and was happy to have notched up his first win in 12 months.
Conran also praised the high standard of play currently on the Ladbrokes Legends Tour, making it much harder for competitors to record wins.
