New South Welshman Tim Stewart has bounced back from a disastrous opening round to storm home and finish as the top Aussie at the PGA TOUR Series-China’s Suzhou Open.

"TimNo player who qualified for the weekend rounds posted a number higher than Stewart’s opening round of 77 at Suzhou Jinji Lake International Golf Club but he recovered in sensational fashion.

With the cut-line landing at 144, Stewart improved by 11 shots in his second round to shoot 66 and make the cut with a shot up his sleeve, rounds of 67-69 on the weekend moving him up into a tie for 22nd for the week.

That performance had a positive impact on Stewart’s position on the Order of Merit as he climbed from 53rd to 32nd.

A tie for 42nd was enough for Christopher Wood to confirm his status as Australia’s highest-ranked player on the Order of Merit, moving up three spots to 23rd while an opening round of 4-under 68 propelled Aaron Wilkin to a tie for 50th and a jump of 42 spots on the Order of Merit to 54th.

A 2-under par round of 69 wasn’t enough for Steven Alker to keep pace at the Web.com Tour’s Lincoln Land Championship in Illinois, the Kiwi veteran falling seven spots in the final round to take a share of eighth place.

A 2-under par round of 69 wasn’t enough for Steven Alker to keep pace at the Web.com Tour’s Lincoln Land Championship in Illinois, the Kiwi veteran falling seven spots in the final round to take a share of eighth place.

"StevenCo-leader through 54 holes, Alker made the turn of the fourth round at 1-over before getting back to level par with a birdie at the par-4 10th.

He made a late charge with three birdies in his final five holes countered somewhat by a bogey at the par-4 15th, finishing three shots back of eventual champion Xinjun Zhang who defeated Dylan Wu at the third hole in a sudden death playoff.

Highlighted by a 6-under par round of 65 in the third round that vaulted him into tournament contention, Alker’s third top-10 finish of the season moved him up 17 spots on the moneylist to 37th and within reach of the top-25.

Comfortably ensconced in the top-25 is Australian Rhein Gibson, who backed up his win at the BMW Charity Pro-Am with a tie for 42nd to remain in seventh position on the Order of Merit.

On the European Tour’s Challenge Tour Jordan Zunic was the only Australian in the field at the Hauts de France – Pas de Calais Golf Open but failed to qualify for the weekend with rounds of 74-79.

Rick Kulacz has posted a second round 66 to take out the 2019 Roy Hill Port Hedland Classic with a stunning tournament total of 13-under.

Rick Kulacz has posted a second round 66 to take out the 2019 Roy Hill Port Hedland Classic with a stunning tournament total of 13-under.

"RickAfter holding the overnight lead, a number of players put the challenge to Kulacz but the in-form West Aussie was able to hold them off.

Firing yet another bogey-free round at Port Hedland Golf Club, Kulacz birdied holes 1, 4, 6 and 9 to make the turn at 4-under, with an additional two birdies at 15 and 18 sealing the three-shot win.

“We’ve been working really hard this year and it’s great to see the work starting to pay off,” said Kulacz, who credits his coach and WA PGA Chairman Rob Farley for his newfound confidence and great results.

“It was another really solid week on the course creating a lot of opportunities and minimal mistakes.

“Thanks to all involved for another amazing event and I look forward to coming back next year.”

Consistency was the key for West Australian Jason Chellew whose back-to-back rounds of 67 were enough for second place and a 10-under tournament total.

James Anstiss notched up yet another top-5 result on the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series’ WA Swing, firing 4-under 68 in the final round for an 8-under total and third place outright.

Starting the day six shots behind the leader Brady Watt was the first to jump out of the blocks, posting a 6-under 66 low round of the day to move to a 7-under total for 4th position.

Players now head to beautiful Broome for the Nexus Risk Services WS6 Broome on Tuesday followed by the $30,000 Broome, Carpet and Tile Open starting Friday.

Queensland’s Tim Hart has won the 2019 Lunar Mining Emerald Pro-Am by two shots at Emerald Golf Club and in doing so has won the Onsite Rental Group Mining Towns Series.

Queensland’s Tim Hart has won the 2019 Lunar Mining Emerald Pro-Am by two shots at Emerald Golf Club and in doing so has won the Onsite Rental Group Mining Towns Series.

"TimFiring 7-under 63 in the opening round, Hart took a two-shot lead into the final round where he and Darren Beck sat tied at the top of the leaderboard.

Consistency and a Sunday round of 6-under 64 featuring three birdies, two eagles and a bogey saw Hart prevail in clear, warm Queensland conditions.

His 36 hole total of 13-under 127 was two shots clear from his nearest rival, rookie PGA Professional Shae Wools-Cobb.

“Without my putting I would not have won today,” said Hart

“I recently went left hand low and have been working really hard on making it work and with a new mental outlook it has paid off.”

For Wools-Cobb his second-round 8-under 62 and 11-under 129 total was not only his best round as a professional but also helped him to his best result.

Today’s round included eight birdies, an eagle and two bogeys.

“They say it is a big step from amateur golf to professional golf and they are right,” said Wools-Cobb.

“I have played well since turning pro and it has been a learning curve particularly here in the mining towns. I’ve had a fantastic time.”

One shot further back in outright third place was overnight equal leader Darren Beck from NSW who was in contention all day but rued some missed opportunities.

The final round of the Lunar Mining Emerald Pro-Am also saw the completion of the Onsite Rental Group Mining Town Series.

It was a runaway victory in the end for Tim Hart who was simply unstoppable with a six event, 12-round total of seventy two under par (-72), pocketing a bonus cheque of $5,000.

“To average 6-under per round for the past twelve rounds is awesome,” said Hart.

“I was not planning on attending any of the tour schools this year however the way I am now playing and with the bank balance looking a lot healthier, China and even the Web.com Tour now come into play.”

Finishing 10 shots adrift in second place was past series winner and fellow Queenslander Brett Rankin at -62 with Dane Williamson from NSW rounding out the top three a further three shots adrift at -59.

The series was conducted over six pro-am tournaments throughout the mining towns to great success, and the PGA of Australia and Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series is pleased to have Onsite Rental Group committed as the naming rights sponsor of the Mining Towns swing for the next two years.

The QLD swing of the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series will now make its way back toward the east coast for the $55,000 Ian Weigh Rockhampton Pro-Am being played from 20-23 June.

An errant tee shot and a 54-hole deficit that was a bridge too far were Adam Scott’s greatest regrets as he logged his fifth consecutive top-20 finish at a major championship at the 119th US Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

An errant tee shot and a 54-hole deficit that was a bridge too far were Adam Scott’s greatest regrets as he logged his fifth consecutive top-20 finish at a major championship at the 119th US Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

"AdamDespite being 0-for-7 in his career when owning the lead through 54 holes, Gary Woodland held off a courageous effort from Brooks Koepka to win a third straight US Open to claim his maiden major title by three strokes, completing the coronation with a stunning birdie from 30 feet at Pebble’s iconic 18th hole.

A 3-under par round of 68 saw Scott finish as the leading Australian in a tie for seventh at 6-under for the week but midway through his round he was in position to add to his 2013 Masters triumph.

A birdie at the par-4 3rd got momentum in the right direction and then an eagle at the par-5 6th where Scott hit his second shot from 239 yards to inside 15 feet and made the putt.

Further birdies at 9, 10 and 12 had Scott 6-under for his round and in a tie for fourth before disaster struck on the 13th tee.

The Queenslander hit just six of 14 fairways in the final round but none were as costly as the miss on 13 that went way right and out of bounds resulting in a double-bogey six.

He had eight one-putt greens through his first 12 holes but Scott propensity to miss tiddlers reared its head at the 16th hole where he missed the hole completely to the left from three feet, Scott recovering to make the return putt from seven feet.

A missed par putt from six feet led to another bogey at the par-3 17th and left the 38-year-old lamenting another near thing at a major championship.

“I made a terrible swing off the 13th hole. I don’t know why,” Scott said immediately following his round.

“I’ve played so many of these; you can never force anything at the US Open. I didn’t force it to get to where I was, I just made a poor swing.

“A little disappointing to finish at 6-under when I was standing on the 13th tee at 9-under. And of course you know that if you can just get it in the clubhouse, you never know what can happen.

“Standing here straight off the green I’m very disappointed in myself, but there was lots of good stuff this week, and enjoyable week on the golf course here for sure.”

Buoyed by his continued strong results in major championships, Scott won’t play another tournament until The Open Championship at Royal Portrush, where he hopes to go toe-to-toe with this week’s runner-up and the dominant figure in majors at present, Brooks Koepka.

“He’s definitely found the recipe to make himself perform at the big ones,” Scott said of Koepka’s title defence.

“I respect him a lot. For him to be in contention four or five times and have won four, I certainly envy that, because it’s been kind of the other way for me.

“And I look forward to the next time I’m in there. I don’t care if Brooks is there, I’m happy to have a crack at him.

“I just need to be a little bit closer going into a Sunday at one of these things. I think that’s really the big takeaway. And I’ll be working on that.

“But I like where my game is at, and I think I just have to keep working really hard at it and stay hungry.”

Jason Day produced his best round of the week on Sunday to finish tied for 21st at 2-under par with both Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith shooting 1-over 72 to finish tied for 35th and tied for 72nd respectively.

Rick Kulacz has got off to a flyer in the $30,000 Roy Hill Port Hedland Classic shooting a bogey-free first round of 7-under 65.

"RickOnce again strong winds welcomed players to the Port Hedland layout but it didn’t seem to slow down the scoring for the day.

Karratha Pro-Am winner Braden Becker continued his great form on sand, posting a round of 4-under 68 to join James Anstiss in 5th position.

Jason Chellew and Brad Moules went one better at 5-under 67 while WA local Conor Brown posted the second lowest round of the day with a superb 6-under 66.

It was Rick Kulacz’s day on the sand, however, firing a faultless round to take the lead after day one.

It was a superb ball striking round by Kulacz, hitting 15 of 18 greens to set up plenty of birdie chances.

“It’s nice to have a solid ball striking day, producing a heap of good opportunities on these greens,” said Kulacz.

“The greens once scraped are pure to putt on so you know you’ll make a few.”

The Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series event is set for a great final round at Port Hedland Golf Club South with more than half the filed under par and within six shots of Kulacz.

Play starts from 8.30am.

American Gary Woodland leads the field by two shots going into the weekend at the U.S. Open after firing a stunning round of 6-under 65 in round two.

American Gary Woodland leads the field by two shots going into the weekend at the U.S. Open after firing a stunning round of 6-under 65 in round two.

"AdamJoining Tiger Woods and Justin Rose as the only players to have reached the score in a U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, Woodland’s bogey-free round was exciting to watch, with a final birdie on his last hole, the par-4 9th the icing on the cake.

A pleasing round of 1-under saw Justin Rose move to 7-under for the tournament so far after playing in the morning field to sit two shots behind Woodland and one ahead of third-placed Louis Oosthuizen.

Aaron Wise and Rory McIlroy round out the top-5 on the leaderboard at 5-under the card with McIlroy bringing some of his best game to the Pebble Beach Golf Links layout in round two.

After failing to make the cut at the past two U.S. Open Championships, Adam Scott will progress to the final rounds of the 2019 tournament.

Despite starting his round with back-to-back bogeys on holes 1 and 2, Scott reignited from there to fire birdies at 4, 6 and 9 to make the turn at 1-under.

With a single bogey at 13 and birdies on 14 and 15, Scott’s second round of 2-under 69 keeps the Queenslander within reach of the front-runners.

“Overall shooting in the 60s at a U.S. Open is a good thing. I’m happy with that,” said Scott.

“It was a tough start, had me on the back foot. I’m playing well. I had to stay patient and stick in and wait for my chances.

“I got it back under par through 9 and then tried to hold on coming in. Always in a U.S. Open, even in these nice conditions, it’s a fine line. It’s easy to drop a shot.”

Jason Day’s round started on one of the course’s toughest holes; a double-bogey on the par-4 10th pushing his 1-under day one score to 1-over early in the day. Further bogeys at 11 and 17 moved Day to 3-over before a birdie lightened the load to see him through the turn at 3-over.

Day was able to fight back, however, finishing round two with a 2-over scorecard for a total of 1-over, level with Marc Leishman and enough to see the pair through to the weekend.

Cameron Smith was the last of the Australasian contingent to confirm his spot in round three, making a required birdie on his final hole, the 9th.

Sitting outside the projected cut on his approach to the final hole following a double-bogey at 8, Smith’s composed approach saw him through, finishing round two at 1-over.

Even par in round two kept Matt Jones at a 3-over total, while Aaron Baddeley and Ryan Fox completed their 2019 U.S. Open efforts at 5-over the card after the cut was made at 2-over.

New Zealand’s Daniel Hillier and Australians Marcus Fraser and Brett Drewitt struggled through the second round with totals well over par, sitting at, 7-over, 10-over and 11-over respectively.

Cameron Smith and Jason Day will play side-by-side in round three as the first of the Aussies too tee off, taking to the 1st tee at 2:59am AEST. Watch live from 5:00am on FOX SPORTS Australia channel 503.

Aaron Townsend has clinched the win of the ABM Contractors Blackwater Pro-Am with rounds of 66 and 65 for a 13-under total of 131.

Aaron Townsend has clinched the win of the ABM Contractors Blackwater Pro-Am with rounds of 66 and 65 for a 13-under total of 131.

"AaronWith three PGA Professionals beginning the final round all tied up at 7-under the card, it was a come from behind victory for the NSW Professional who remained bogey-free over the 36 holes of the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series tournament.

Starting from the 1st one shot behind the leading trio, Townsend birdied holes 1, 6 and 7 on the front-9 then racked up another four birdies on the back-9 on holes 11, 14, 15 and 16.

“I have played really well over the past two days,” said Townsend.

“I made very few mistakes over the 36 holes and to not have one bogey is very pleasing and was definitely the key to the victory.

“This is my first visit to Blackwater and the Mining Town Series and it is so different to playing other events, it has been great.”

Finishing in second place only a single shot back was fellow NSW PGA Professional Dale Williamson who fired a second round 66 to add to his first round of 66.

In great form after winning the Tieri Pro-Am at his last start, Williamson carded 8 birdies and 2 bogeys in his final round to fall just short.

“What a fantastic few days I have had here at Blackwater,” said Williamson.

“This is a truly unique area and the amount of work all the members and volunteers put in is simply amazing.

“I think this is one of the reasons I have played so well the past week.”

A trio of players completed the tournament in third place with Queenslanders Brett Rankin and Anthony Johnson as well as Victorian Jack Wilson carding rounds of 11-under.

Tim Hart continues to hold the lead in the Onsite Rental Group Mining Towns Series on 59-under par holding a four shot lead over his nearest rival in Brett Rankin on 55-under. Dale Williamson sits in third place on 50-under with one event to be played.

The final event of the Onsite Rental Group Mining Town Series will commence on Saturday at the Lunar Mining Emerald Pro-Am.

Western Australian Braden Becker has won the CITIC PACIFIC Mining Karratha Pro-Am with a round of 4-under 68 as he continues to prove himself as a consistent sand green performer.

"BradenAfter a leisurely 12-hour drive north of Geraldton, blue skies and strong winds greeted players with green fairways and red sand greens ready to test players around the Karratha Country Club layout.

After finishing a shot behind the winners at last year’s Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series event, Becker once again relished the opportunity to play on sand.

“We love heading up here to these amazing places, putting on sand is a real art and I feel very confident on them now,” said Becker, referring to his scraping technique.

“It’s great to finally get a win on this year’s swing and I’m looking forward to getting to Port Hedland for another amazing event.”

Andrew Schonewille, Rick Kulacz and Brad Moules all shot 3-under 69 to tie for second place, continuing their consistent form on the WA swing.

Troy Murphy and Bardy Watt posted last year’s winning score of 2-under 70 to tie for fifth.

Players now head to Port Hedland for the two-day $30k Royhill Classic to be played on 15-16 June at Port Hedland Golf Club.

Justin Rose has taken the lead of the 119th U.S. Open Championship with a birdie on his final hole in the opening round at Pebble Beach, eclipsing the clubhouse lead of 66 with a round of 6-under 65.

Justin Rose has taken the lead of the 119th U.S. Open Championship with a birdie on his final hole in the opening round at Pebble Beach, eclipsing the clubhouse lead of 66 with a round of 6-under 65.

"JustinOnly the second player in history to reach the low mark of 6-under at the Carmel-by-the-Sea course in a U.S. Open, Rose equals the record set in 2000 by Tiger Woods in his opening round.

Turning it on early with an eagle on the 6th hole, a birdie on 16 sparked a late charge for the lead with birdies following on 17 and 18, moving Rose above the logjam of players tied at the top of the leaderboard.

“I was trying to stay patient with myself mentally, but kept up-and-downing the ball, kept the momentum up,” said Rose.

“Then I got rewarded with a hot finish, birdieing the last three. I took a good round to a great round.”

Rickie Fowler shot an impressive opening round of 5-under 66 to take the morning’s clubhouse lead, eventually being joined by Xander Schauffele, Louis Oosthuizen and Aaron Wise in a tie for second place.

Widely regarded as the best player without a major championship to his name, Fowler looked calm throughout his opening round which included just a single bogey on the 9th hole.

“It was pretty stress-free,” said Fowler of his opening round, hitting 93% of fairways and 83% of greens in regulation.

“You still feel uncomfortable I guess. The lines are very tight and you’re still trying to execute, and I think that was a big thing – you never feel just in cruise control at a major, especially a U.S. Open.”

Marc Leishman leads the way for the Aussies after playing in the morning field, finishing four shots off the lead and well in contention at Pebble Beach.

Taking to the back-9 to start his round, Leishman opened with bogeys on 10 and 12 before birdies 13, 18, and three in a row from holes 5 to 7 pushed him up the leaderboard, closing out with a bogey at 9 for a 2-under 69 scorecard.

“I got off to a pretty ordinary start, a couple over after three holes,” said Leishman.

“I didn’t do a whole lot wrong but knew if I kept hitting good shots, they’ve got to come eventually. The course was out there to be had and it was nice to fight back and shoot a couple under.

“The greens were a little quicker today but still pretty soft. I think that’s going to change a lot as the week goes on. I think it will firm up a lot and be really difficult.”

Reigning champion Brooks Koepka got off to an incredible start playing alongside Viktor Hovland and Francesco Molinari, firing four birdies through seven holes to chase down the leaders.

A bogey at 8 halted the American’s charge, Koepka going on to add a single birdie and two bogeys to his scorecard for a round 1 total of 2-under 69.

Jason Day enjoyed a steady start to his 2019 US Open campaign with Steve Williams on the bag, posting four birdies and three bogeys for a round of 1-under 70. Playing in the afternoon field, Adam Scott joined Day on the 1-under 70 total to tie for 28th place.

Birdies on 3, 6 and 18 and bogeys on the 2nd, 10th and 16th holes resulted in an even-par round of 71 for Australian PGA Championship winner Cameron Smith who sits tied for 40th ahead of the second round.

Aaron Baddeley was among the handful of players to make eagle on a record-breaking day; his coming on the par-5, 518 yard 6th hole before finishing round one with a 1-over 72 total.

Marcus Fraser was one of the first players to take to Pebble Beach, teeing off alongside America’s Sam Saunders and Mexican Carlos Oritz from the 1st tee.

Starting his round with two bogeys on holes 2 and 3, birdies on 4 and 6 brought Fraser back to even par before making the turn at 1-over thanks to a bogey at 9. Birdies on 14 and 15 weren’t able to push Fraser into red numbers with further bogeys on 10, 17 and 18 seeing the Victorian finish round 1 at 2-over 73.

In his first appearance at Pebble Beach Golf Links and third U.S. Open tilt, Ryan Fox opened with a round of 3-over 74; Matt Jones joining the Kiwi on the 3-over total later in the round sit tied for 98th.

New Zealand amateur Daniel Hillier endured a rollercoaster round featuring birdies, bogeys and double-bogeys for a scorecard of 5-over 76.

In his maiden major championship appearance, Brett Drewitt showed composure as he took to the Pebble Beach layout to make the turn at even par, however, a double bogey on the tough 10th hole started a downturn for the New South Welshman who completed the opening round at 6-over.

Highlighting the round was a hole-in-one from Slovakian Rory Sabbatini on the par-3, 202 yard 12th. History was also made during the round with the single-round record of 12 eagles in a U.S. Open well and truly broken.

Adam Scott will be the first of the Australasians to tee off in round two at 1:02am AEST tomorrow morning with live coverage starting from 5:00am AEST on FOX SPORTS Australia 503.
