Sam Brazel has carried over his solid form of 2015 finishing leading Australian in the Asian/Japan Tour co-sanctioned Myanmar Open at the weekend.
The 37-year-old from Northern NSW was the leading money winner among Australia’s full time Asian Tour players last year and is off to a good start in 2016 with back to back top-15 finishes.
Rounds of 66-67-71-71 saw Brazel post a 13-under total for the week, good for a T15 result and one ahead of next best Australian, Kalem Richardson.
One shot further back was Japan Tour debutante Aaron Townsend whose closing 6-under 66 was the best round of the day.
The tournament was Townsend’s first since earning his Japan Tour card at last year’s Q-School and it was an encouraging start to the season.
Suffering the opposite fate was last week’s leading Australian Wonjoon Lee who dropped more than 30 places on the leader board after a final round 77.
Lee was just outside the top-10 at the start of the day after scores of 71-66-67 but an opening nine of 1-over-par combined with three back nine bogies and a double at the par-5 18th to derail his week.
Jordan Sherratt was the last of the Australians to make the cut finishing T49 at 5-under for the week.
Scott Barr, Terry Pilkadaris and Unho Park were the three Australians to miss the weekend.
