Dale Brandt – Richards has captured his first Professional victory, taking out the 2016 Ron Crouch Transport Wagga Pro-Am with a closing round of 6-under 66.

The new kid on the block from South West Rocks on the NSW Mid North Coast held his nerve in what proved to be a dramatic final day at the Wagga Country Club.

Holding the overnight lead with Leigh McKechnie, the 25-year-old rookie Professional kicked away to a three-shot lead over McKechnie, Jordan Mullaney and Dimi Papadatos at the turn.

Papadatos and Andrew Evans rocketed into contention late on Friday after both took advantage of some reachable par-5s on the back nine and closing the gap on Brandt-Richards, who found himself holding only a one shot lead on the final hole, one of the tougher holes on the course – a lengthy par-3

With McKechnie stumbling late and unable to make up ground, it was down to Brandt-Richards who was sitting 30-ft away from the hole on the 18th just off the green and needing an up and down to complete a memorable week.

With hundreds of locals out in force to watch the final groupings, Brandt-Richards closed out the event in style, chipping in for birdie and with the roar heard around the club Papadatos and Evans soon realized they had fallen short.

"It was an incredible day and I can’t describe the feeling right now," said Brandt-Richards, who now calls the Lower North Shore of Sydney home.

"I played well all week and have been feeling good about my game since Qualifying School where I gained my card," he added.

"I didn’t feel the nerves until late in the day but to finish the way I did on 18 was something I won’t ever forget."

Evans final round of 7-under 65 was the low round of the tournament and left him in a tie for second with Papadatos on 10-under, two shots behind Brandt – Richards on 12-under.

Tournament draw card Peter O’Malley finished in a respectable tie for 14th on 4-under.

Defending champion Mitchell A Brown started the day one shot off the lead but alongside playing partner Jamie Hook, the pair were unable to make any impression on the leader board.

The NSW/ACT Pro-Am circuit continues onto Canberra this week with Federal Golf Club hosting the Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series on Monday followed by Jake Nagle hosting the series on Tuesday at his home club of Queanbeyan.

Matt Millar will be hoping to claim his own event at Gold Creek on Wednesday before the tour moves to Yowani on Thursday.
