Jacob Boyce fired 4-under 68 in the final round to claim victory in the 2018 Ian Weigh Toyota Rockhampton Pro-Am.

""In search of the largest win of his young career and his third win in a row on the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series, professional Boyce had a lot to play for today.

Boyce led this year’s Ian Weigh Toyota Rockhampton Pro-Am from start to finish recording rounds of 66, 67, 68 and 68 for a tournament total of 19-under par 269 to finish eight shots clear of the field.

On a perfect afternoon for scoring, spectators were treated to an exciting final round with the lead group of Jacob Boyce and Matthew Millar.

Boyce playing the more challenging front-9 at the Rockhampton Golf Club got off to a slow start but eventually made the turn in one over par 37, allowing Millar to edge within four shots of the lead following Millar’s frontt-9 of even par 36.

The back-9 is the shorter nine presenting a number of birdie opportunities. Boyce knew he needed to take advantage of his length off the tee and made his move to extend his lead recording five birdies, two bogeys and an eagle being the highlight of the round to close the back-9 in 5-under par 31.

“Today my game was very hot and cold, in comparison to the first three rounds,” said Boyce.

“There were a number of turning points in the round where it could have gone either way.

“The biggest turning point was the 12th hole where I holed out from 65 metres with sand iron for eagle.

“It is a great feeling winning the Ian Weigh Toyota Rockhampton Pro-Am here today. This caps off a solid few weeks of playing and to win my first four round tournament makes it even more special."

Finishing in equal second position was Tweed Heads based professional  Damien Jordan shooting the low round of the day 6-under par 66 and Fiji based professional Sam Lee who recorded another solid performance firing a round of 5-under par 67 for tournament total of 11-under par 277.

“I really enjoyed the course here in Rockhampton," said Lee.

“It was great to play my way into contention yesterday and to maintain that momentum again today."

The next best placed professional was Matthew Millar finishing a further two shots back on 9-under par 279.

The next stop on the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series is the Maryborough Golf Club for the Carriers Arms Hotel Maryborough Pro-Am on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 July 2018.
