South Australian Tom Bond will take a three shot lead into the final round of the Isuzu QLD Open being played at the Brookwater Golf & Country Club.
Experiencing a mixed day on the course, Bond fired a 4-under 68 to top the leaderboard after three rounds with a total of 8-under the card.
After nine holes Bond’s round was blemish free with three birdies on the card but it was on the back nine that things became more interesting.
Posting a double bogey on the par-5 13th, Bond rallied to make three birdies in his closing holes.
"I like that this course doesn’t let up. You have to hit every shot exactly how you want. You hit one off shot and you’re staring at a double bogey like I was on 13," said Bond who lead the Isuzu QLD Open after the first round in 2013.
"On 13 I had a little bit of bad luck on top of a bad swing. I had a fly buzzing around my ball but I did the wrong thing in just hitting my shot."
"I carved it and left myself in a pretty bad spot and ended up walking off with double."
"But that made me determined to put in a bit more effort and make sure it didn’t happen again."
While tomorrow Bond will lead a PGA Tour of Australasia tournament into the final round for the first time today he missed an opportunity on the par-3 7th.
Bond’s tee shot pulled up two inches short of the cup; had it rolled in he would have earned $50,000 thanks to Windsor Income Protection Insurance for the hole-in-one.
Victorian Matt Griffin went quietly about his business today to shoot 4-under 68 to be outright second on 5-under the card.
With two victories on the board already this year, Griffin feels confident his game is in shape to take out a win tomorrow.
"It is one of those course where it is hard to make a number of birdies so 68 gives you a good jump up the board," said Griffin who started the day tied 12th.
"The biggest thing from having a few wins is knowing you can do it. Going in near the lead tomorrow I am confident that if I play my best golf then I will have a chance."
"There are a lot of good players here so I am sure it will be a tough fight tomorrow."
Overnight leader Anthony Brown finished at 2-over the card today to be outright third and four shots off the lead.
A further shot back again is David Bransdon (VIC) while rounding out the top-5 on 2-under the card are Andrew Dodt (QLD), Max McCardle (SA), Kim Felton (WA) and Jake Higginbottom (NSW).
The final round of the Isuzu QLD Open will tee off at 8.45am with the leaders on course at 10.45am.
