Scott Barr showed he still has enough game to be a force on the Asian Tour with a brilliant opening 64 to share the lead at the Resorts World Manila Masters.
The 45-year-old is struggling to earn playing rights for next year after falling outside the top-60 on the Order of Merit but produced his best round of the year Thursday.
His 8-under effort came despite a double bogey at the 11th hole, eight birdies and an eagle more than making up for the lone blemish.
While he couldn’t maintain the momentum and added rounds of 73-72-74 to finish down the standings, his Thursday play will give him a glimmer of hope with limited tournaments left in the season.
Barr is unlikely to earn starts at the three European Tour co-sanctioned tournaments remaining on the schedule which leaves him just two events to climb from 75th to inside the top-60.
His Thursday play suggests he is still capable of competing at the top level and he will now be looking to recreate his finish to the 2015 season where he claimed the final card for 2016 by finishing second in the final event of the season.
