Baker-Finch set to play E-Z-GO PGA Legends Tour


Australian golfing legend and PGA Life Member, Ian Baker-Finch, will tee it up in the E-Z-GO PGA Legends Tour next month with the former Major winner set to play a number of pro-am tournaments on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.

Baker-Finch, who won the 1991 Open Championship, is set to play the Peter Stickley Vendor Advocacy Legends Pro-Am, Victorian PGA Senior Foursomes Championship and Portsea Legends Pro-Am in March.

Baker-Finch’s last appearance in Victoria was 2009 when he played the Portsea Pro-Am.

Eagle Ridge Golf Course will host the first of the three events on 16 March with the Peter Stickley Vendor Advocacy Legends Pro-Am.

Teeing off alongside Baker-Finch at Eagle Ridge will be several well known Australian Professionals, including former Alfred Dunhill Cup winner and US PGA Champions Tour winner, Rodger Davis, Australian PGA Championship and European Tour winner, Mike Harwood, and former PGA Tour of Australasia winner,
Michael Clayton.

Clayton and Baker-Finch will also partner for the Victorian PGA Senior Foursomes Championship on March 17 at St Andrews Beach Golf Course.

The Portsea Legends Pro-Am, to be played at Portsea Golf Club on 18 March, will be the last scheduled tournament for Baker-Finch on the E-Z-GO PGA Legends Tour.

Baker-Finch turned Professional in 1979 and began his career on the PGA Tour of Australasia winning his first title, the New Zealand Open, in 1983 at the age of 23.

In the last five years, Baker-Finch has played a handful of tournaments on the US PGA Champions Tour, recording two top-10 finishes from three starts with his best finish (T3) at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf tournament at the Savannah Golf Club in 2011.

Baker-Finch walked away from Professional golf in 1997 after a disastrous opening round at The Open Championship, which resulted in his subsequent withdrawal.

More recently, Baker-Finch has become a popular golf commentator in America and at home, featuring heavily on the Seven Networks summer of golf coverage throughout 2014.

The E-Z-GO PGA Legends Tour is managed by the PGA of Australia and is the Professional golf circuit for male professional golfers aged 50 and over.

Approximately 60 tournaments operate throughout Australia and New Zealand, with approximately AU$1 million in prize money on offer each year.

The Tour’s most prominent events include the Australian PGA Seniors Championship, the Australian Senior Open, the New Zealand PGA Senior Championship and the Legends Tour Championship.

Other Professionals who feature regularly on the PGA Legends Tour include, Wayne Grady, Peter Fowler and Peter Senior.
